Aug 10, 2023Laundry hacks: Shopper declares they're 'never going back to laundry detergent' after trying with a $6 Aldi buy
By Rachael Gavin| 2 weeks ago
A woman has made a bold declaration about laundry detergent after being "blown away" by the results of a $6 gadget purchased at Aldi.
The shopper used the Joie eco ball in a load of laundry, and was so impressed by the results she posted about the product in the Aldi Mums Facebook group.
Eco balls typically contain small ceramic balls inside, which have minerals that supposedly raise the pH level in the water to help clean clothes.

Despite the customer's doubts about the product she still bought one, and found they did a good job on her clothes.
"I got these on my Aldi shop last week, I thought they wouldn't work but I'd give it a crack anyway... I'm never going back to laundry detergent. I only do my washes with cold water, I used one of these balls and a cup of white vinegar with clothes, and two of these balls with a cup of vinegar for a towel load. My washing is SO SOFT AND CLEAN! And it smells so clean! Absolutely incredible, highly recommend," she wrote in a Facebook post.

She wasn't the only person raving about the product, with other positive reviews spotted online.
"This is the second post I've come across this morning saying they are good," one commented.
"OK again I was skeptical - but I was out of laundry liquid today so thought what the hell – I am now a convert and I didn't add any vinegar, just chucked two into the machine and washed as normal and blow me away the clothes were clean and smelt fresh – not like a fake chemical smell from the liquid, just fresh clean and I had very dirty teenage boy clothes in there and it is clean," another said.

However, there was some skepticism about the product and how it can clean clothes without using detergent.
One member of the Facebook group even linked to a Choice review of similar gadgets, noting that the consumer advocate's tests found they were just as or less effective as plain water for cleaning clothes.
"I'm not sure how well this would actually clean the clothes? Especially in cold water I can't imagine this would clean your clothes," posted a member.
"I use vinegar for my towels and blacks only. I have tried eco balls (maybe not the same brand) about 10 to 15 years ago and unfortunately wasn't impressed. However I would love to give these a try if I can get some from my local Aldi," commented a shopper.

Some commenting on the Facebook post were also confused about why the shopper used vinegar with the eco balls. She explained she uses the pantry product as an alternative to fabric softener and adds it to the fabric softener compartment.
If you are keen to try the product, you'll have to be quick as the eco balls were a Special Buy and only available for a limited time.
